Starlink Order Cancel Before Equipment Ships
Updated · ~6 min read

Changed your mind an hour after checkout? Starlink generally lets you cancel a hardware or shop order before it is packed for shipment, but the window is short — help docs describe roughly one to three hours after placement before the order releases to distribution. Miss that window and you are usually looking at a post-delivery return instead of a clean pre-ship cancel.
Fast path: cancel while the button still exists
On the website
- Log into starlink.com/account.
- Open the Orders / Your Orders area.
- Select the kit or accessory order.
- Under Order Details, choose Cancel Order (wording may show as Cancel while unshipped; Return appears after delivery eligibility).
- Confirm. Status should flip to Cancelled.
In the Starlink app
- Tap the profile / person icon → Orders.
- Open the order → slide or tap to cancel → confirm Yes.
Do this immediately after purchase if you are unsure about mounting, HOA rules, or a competing fiber install date. Waiting overnight often means the cancel control disappears.
How to read order status
- Processing / editable — cancel and address edits are most likely available.
- Preparing Shipment or an estimated ship date with no Cancel button — the order likely released to the warehouse. Self-serve cancel may be gone.
- Shipped with carrier tracking — too late to cancel pre-ship; refuse delivery only if the carrier allows, or plan a standard return after delivery.
Starlink’s address-change article uses the same 1–3 hour edit window concept: once Preparing Shipment / Shipped appears, portal edits stop.
If Cancel Order is missing
- Open a support ticket from the account describing the order number and that you need a pre-ship cancellation.
- Reply with any automated email that shows warehouse status.
- Watch for a cancel confirmation; ticket SLAs of a couple of days are commonly reported by customers — stay polite and concise.
- If the kit still arrives, do not open it if you intend a full return; start the return flow in the portal and use the prepaid label when offered.
There is no reliable public “cancel hotline” that bypasses the ticket system for ordinary residential orders. Chat/ticket inside the authenticated account is the supported channel.
Deposits and pre-orders are different
A pre-order deposit / waitlist is not the same as a shipping kit order. Deposit cancels usually live under Manage on the deposit line as something like Cancel and Request Refund. Canceling a deposit can remove your place in line; rejoining later often means going to the back. When Starlink eventually invites you to buy the kit, you typically have a short acceptance window (often about a week in historical FAQ language) before that invite lapses.
Shop accessories vs full kits
Mounts, cables, and other shop items follow the same “cancel before packed” rule. After release, Starlink points customers to carrier tools or a post-delivery return. If tracking already shows FedEx/UPS/DHL movement, use that carrier’s delivery manager tools only for intercepts they officially support — success is not guaranteed.
Refund expectations
Orders canceled before shipment should not charge you for hardware that never leaves the warehouse; payment authorizations reverse on the processor’s timeline. After shipment, treat the case as a return: eligibility, prepaid labels, and refund timing follow the Return Policy in your portal. Keep screenshots of the Cancelled status page until the bank cleared amount matches.
Compare internet options for your address
Whether you are weighing Starlink, fiber, or cable in your neighborhood, start with a ZIP check and a quick call. Soft next steps only — no hard sell.
Practical tips so you do not need to cancel
- Run the app obstruction scan at the real install spot before paying.
- Confirm HOA / rental rules for exterior antennas.
- Compare fiber or cable at your ZIP in case a truck roll is days away — satellite is excellent as primary in rural gaps and as backup in wired neighborhoods.
- Double-check shipping address in the first hour when edits are still cheap.
Kit order vs service plan timing
Some checkouts bind a service plan activation to the hardware order. Canceling the unshipped kit should stop that activation path, but verify under Subscriptions that no unexpected plan remains “pending start.” If a plan line still shows after a hardware cancel, manage or cancel it explicitly so you are not billed when a phantom activation date arrives.
If you ordered accessories in a separate shop cart (extra cable, pipe adapter), cancel each order individually — canceling the dish order does not always cascade to a second shop ticket.
Talking to support without losing the thread
Lead the ticket with: order number, UTC time placed, current status string, and the sentence “Please cancel before shipment and confirm refund of the authorization.” Attach a screenshot of the Orders page. Avoid multi-topic tickets (billing + cancel + technical) that slow routing.
